- After learning Vedic Maths, will the students get confused with the Maths that they learn in schools?
- No. Vedic Maths teaches different techniques to solve any problem. Once they learn Vedic Maths, students feel more confident in doing Maths they learn in school because they are now equipped with alternative solutions.
- How is it different from Abacus?
- Both Abacus and Vedic Maths are totally different. Abacus is a Chinese system of doing calculations using a calculating aid. Vedic Maths is a subject of Indian origin derived from the Vedas.
- Which is more useful – Abacus or Vedic Maths?
- Abacus has its own usefulness. It can help in doing arithmetic calculations (which was the purpose for its invention). But it has no room for Compound Multiplication, Squaring, Cubing, Algebra, etc. These topics and much more can be learnt using Vedic Maths with ease. Moreover, there are no alternate ways to perform a calculation in Abacus, but in Vedic Maths, there are multiple options to do a single calculation.
- What is the ideal age for enrolling a child to learn Vedic Maths?
- Firstly, there is no hard and fast rule with regards to the age. We usually start from children of 10 years and above. Secondly, there is nothing like 'an ideal age' to learn Vedic Maths. It's equally helpful for working professionals who need to perform a lot of number crunching in their daily work, like Accountants, Share Brokers, Traders, Professionals (especially in Construction field who have to perform calculations involving different units of measurements like Inches & Feet, Yards & Feet, Hectares & Ares, etc. For such people, Vedic Maths is a boon.
For children, Vedic Maths is useful in removing the fear for Maths, creating an interest in Maths, cracking scholarship exams, facilitating creativity through pattern observation & recognition.
Students appearing for competitive exams like CET, CAT, GRE, GMAT, Govt exams, Banking exams, etc, get 45-60 seconds to attempt a question. Vedic Maths helps them to do calculation faster than the conventional techniques
- If it is so useful, why isn't it taught in schools?
- This is a question many people ask. It is sad that even though Vedic Maths originated in India, it is not taught in any school, college or university in India. We are still following the Western educational pattern or learning through logical reasoning instead of developing creativity and intuition. School of Vedic Maths is very keen on training and encouraging people (especially youngsters) to come forward and take up this task of spreading the knowledge and usefulness of Vedic Maths.
- Will I be adding burden onto my child by teaching him Vedic Maths when he is already overloaded with his school studies?
- No. You will be easing his burden.
- Today, we are so much advanced. We have calculators & computers, why shouldn't we rely on them?
- Maths is a lot more than just arithmetic calculations. Calculators can help in basic arithmetic calculations. But what about Ratio, Proportion, Algebra, Geometry, or other topics in Maths? When we use calculators, we unknowingly become dependent on them to such an extent that we end up using them for even adding two-digit numbers. Our brain's development is arrested once we become dependent on calculators.
- What good is Vedic Maths for people who are not working or those who have retired from their work?
- Math is a good exercise for the brain. We think of doing physical exercises for our body like going to a gym, jogging, Yoga, etc. But what do we do for our brain? Researchers say that doing Maths regularly helps to a great extent in the prevention of developing Alzheimer's disease.
People who have retired from work usually have spare time to get involved in social activities. They can take up the task of teaching Vedic Maths to children in their locality, or atleast their homes. Wouldn't that be a great gift to the coming generation?
